ICARUS: THE VISION OF ANGELS
MARCH 1 29, 1986

FEATURING WORKS BY ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL, LEONARDO DA VINCI, PANAMERENKO, MURRAY FAVRO, as well as Chris Burden, Amelia Earhart, Buckminster Fuller, Yves Klein, Charles Lindbergh, Robert Smithson, Emanuel Swedenborg, Vladimir Tatlin, the Wright Brothers and many more.
Ronald Feldman Fine Arts and the 49th Parallel are pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition ICARUS: THE VISION OF ANGELS from March 1st until March 29th. The concept is by France Morin, Director of the 49th Parallel. The exhibition has been curated by Ronald Feldman and France Morin and will be presented at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, 31 Mercer Street and at the 49th Parallel, 420 West Broadway, both in New York City. The opening will take place on March 1st from 4 to 6 pm at both galleries.
In this exhibition the theme of flight is examined within an aesthetic context, bringing together the creations of a diverse group of individuals artists, engineers, inventors all united by a common interest in the spirit of Icarus. Their often passionate explorations into flight have taken a variety of forms, ranging from the works of Alexander Graham Bell, Leonardo da Vinci and Nikola Tesla to the contemporary visions of Panamarenko, Murray Favro and Robert Smithson, to name only a few of the artists represented.
In organizing the exhibition, the curators have drawn on the collections of such institutions as the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, Baddeck, N.S.; I.B.M. Corporation, Armonk, N.Y.; Swedenborg Foundation, N.Y.; Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Carmen Lamanna Gallery, Toronto; John Weber Gallery, N.Y.; Diane Brown Gallery, N.Y.; and Galerie Vega-Manette Repriels, Liege. Complementing the artworks will be a selection of documentary photographs from the collection of the National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.
