GALLERY ARTISTS
ANDERSON APPLEBROOG ARAKAWA CHUNN FUDGE
THE HARRISONS OSORIO WARHOL
JUNE 20 AUGUST 7
The Feldman Gallery will exhibit work by several artists associated with the gallery, providing the opportunity to view early work from a current perspective as well as the chance to preview the direction of future projects.
JIM ANDERSON will present his public art proposal for Terminal One at JFK Airport. It includes architectural renderings, a virtual walkthrough of the installation, and computer animation created for the site. Utilizing the most advanced electronic tools for modeling and animation, he is currently preparing for his next New York show.
APPLEBROOG will exhibit Drown, 1981, a vellum, paneled work from an early series that depicts minimalist figures in scenes of enigmatic meaning. Applebroog is a 1998 recipient of a MacArthur grant. A ten-year survey of her paintings, organized by the Corcoran, travels to the Pennsylvania Academy in Philadelphia in September.
SHUSAKU ARAKAWA will be represented by Figure of a Body, 1985-86, a painting with mirror, referencing his investigations related to perception. The city of Tokyo has awarded a prize to Arakawa and his collaborator, Madeline Gins, for their plan to develop a seven billion dollar housing project, based on their architectural theories of Reversible Destiny. The Guggenheim Museum Soho mounted a major exhibition of their work in 1997.
NANCY CHUNN, a painter utilizing mapping systems and narrative to depict countries in turmoil, will exhibit a painting from her China series, 1990-98. A recent project, drawings and text on newsprint, was exhibited at the Corcoran and published in her book, Front Pages 1996: One Year of the New York Times, (Rizzoli).
CARL FUDGE will exhibit Terminal Breakdown,1997, an abstract painting derived from his reconstruction of the Ukiyo-e Shunga (Japanese erotic prints), that subverts traditional distinctions between painting and printmaking. The artist showed paintings and photographs for his first exhibition at the Feldman Gallery this spring.
NEWTON AND HELEN MAYER HARRISON, whose sphere of action is the interfacing of art with issues of societal and environmental survival, will exhibit Tibet is the High Ground, 1991. The Harrisons recently created an Eco-system, evolving over a two-year period, on the roof of the new Kunst und Ausstellungshalle in Bonn.
PEPÓN OSORIO, taking as his subject teen-age motherhood, will exhibit a new multi-media installation. Badge of Honor, an earlier work about incarceration and family separation which was exhibited at the gallery, was included in the Johannesburg Biennale and the artists recent solo exhibition at the Centro Reina Sofia in Madrid.
ANDY WARHOL will be represented by paintings relating to pop culture from projects commissioned by the Feldman Gallery. The gallery has mounted several major exhibitions of Warhols work. Frayda Feldman is co-editor of Andy Warhol Prints: A Catalogue Raisonne 1962-1987, Third Edition, published by DAP, Fall, 1998.
Gallery Hours: June: Tuesday Saturday, 10 6. Monday by appointment.
