IDA APPLEBROOG
Nostrums
October 14 November 11
Ida Applebroog will exhibit Nostrums, a series of paintings, and Belladonna, a film/tape done in collaboration with Beth B.
Applebroog's new large paintings contain a composite of images that reflect the near breakdown of contemporary life. Each title is derived from medical terminology -- Camp Compazine, Elixir Tabernacle, Sphincter Pond, Anhedonia, etc.
The talking heads of "Belladonna", quoting from different sources as in data gathered through a research questionnaire, coalesce to reveal individual psychoses. The players include Sebastian Mekas, Humboldt Strait, Jonas Mekas, Jonathan Auerbach, Beth B, Judith Solodkin, Martina Batan, Rafic Azzouny, Ulli Rimkus, Gideon Horowitz, Todd Ayound, Ida Applebroog, and Harry Druzd.
A catalogue of the exhibition with an essay by Carlo McCormick will be available. "Nostrums" will mark Applebroog's sixth exhibition at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts. The public is invited to a reception for the artist on Saturday, October 14 from 5-7 p.m. For more information, please contact Susan Yung at (212) 226-3232.
Gallery Hours are Tuesday Saturday, 10-6, Mondays by appointment.
