A Workshop Exhibition of Costumes from
33 Scenes on the Possibility of Human Happiness
August 8-24, 1979
Gallery Hours: Monday-Friday 10-5 PM
New York Art Theatre Institute, Linda Blumberg, Executive Director, announces a workshop exhibition of costumes designed by artist Vanessa James for the recent production of 33 SCENES ON THE POSSIBILITY OF HUMAN HAPPINESS. The exhibition at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, 33 East 74th Street, will be on view from August 8 through the 24th, Monday Friday, 10-5 PM.
On exhibit will be a sampling of the 180 modern baroque costumes created from discarded and recycled materials such as plastic garbage bags in various colors, tissue paper, newspaper, saran wrap, brown kraft paper, corrugated cardboard, contact paper and plastic lace tablecloths. An unusual aspect of these elaborate costumes is that they are constructed with a wide variety of special tapes; there is no sewing involved.
This exhibition is set up to partially recreate the studio in which the costumes were made, giving the viewer the opportunity to see part of the progress involved in making them. Also included will be photographs of the production as well as drawings and preparatory sketches.
New York Art Theatre will be presenting 33 SCENES ON THE POSSIBILITY OF HUMAN HAPPINESS in the garden of the Cooper Hewitt Museum, 91st Street and 5th Avenue, September 12, 1979 at 6?30 PM.
